Church History

New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church was founded by its current pastor, Rev., Dr. J. Nathaniel Crout. The initial service was held on July 10, 1977 at the Masonic Hall, located at 327 S. Adams St. Ypsilanti, MI, with nineteen people present. On April 9, 1978, they were formally recognized as a Missionary Baptist Church and received twenty-eight chartered members. The organizational service was held at L. C. Perry School in Ypsilanti, MI.


On December 1, 1980 New Covenant was blessed to purchase 4.5 acres of land located at 2345 Tyler Rd., Ypsilanti, MI. Construction on Phase I of the new building project began in the summer of 1985. On August 2, 1987 the church held its first service in the new building. In December of 1994, an additional 27 acres of land was purchased for future expansion and construction of Phase II began in May of 1995. New Covenant entered into the new sanctuary on June 6, 1998. Looking at all that God has done, the members attribute all the Praise and Glory to Him.


Over the years New Covenant has provided various ministries and services such as the support of foreign missions in Haiti and West Liberia; providing scholarship opportunities for those desiring to continue their education. Presently, they sponsor over 18 ministries and services.
